Matt Scott

Upper School Principal

Whitesburg Christian Academy is thrilled to welcome Mr. Matt Scott as our new Upper School Principal.  Mr. Scott's decades of outstanding leadership, passion for excellence in education, and strong faith in Jesus Christ make him the ideal leader to bring the solid foundation of the Academy's Upper School to the next level.

Mr. Reeder says, "Matt Scott brings a wealth of experience, a commitment to excellence, and a deep faith in God to our team.  Most importantly, as I told him at the end of our first interview, he is a great 'fit' for our Academy family."

Mr. Scott has served as the principal of South Lincoln School (PreK-8) in Fayetteville, TN since 2024 where he has led 675 students.  Prior to that, he served as principal at East Limestone High School (6-12 / 1,200 students) after 18 years of serving as the principal of Creekside Primary/Elementary (PreK-5 / 1,100 students).  Under Mr. Scott's leadership, both East Limestone and Creekside were recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools, with Creekside consistently earning an "A" report card in Alabama.

Mrs. Edgemon taught under his leadership years ago at Creekside. She says, “I always say I learned from the best on how to be a principal, which was from Mr. Scott!” Mrs. Edgemon is beyond thrilled that God has brought them back together 16 years later.

Mr. Scott is actively engaged in the professional education community, both locally and nationally. He is a longstanding member of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) and the National Association of Elementary Principals (NAESP); his leadership roles include serving as the Alabama Elementary District 1 president, vice president and district representative. He represented Alabama elementary principals on a national level for three years and has contributed significantly to the state board for elementary principals.

Mr. Scott serves as a writer/editor for “Principal” magazine and is a frequent presenter at both the NAESP national and state principals conferences. He has received numerous accolades, including being selected as the 2019 National Distinguished Principal for District 1 in Alabama and a top three finalist for the state. In 2022, he was honored with the Alabama Elementary Principal CLAS Leadership Award.

Mr. Scott holds a Master of Education from Middle Tennessee State University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He has also served as an adjunct professor at The University of Phoenix, Athens State University’s College of Education, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Alabama. He began his educational career as a teacher from 1995-2002. He taught middle and high school science and enjoyed coaching baseball, basketball, football, and volleyball as well as serving as an athletic director.

Mr. Scott has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership in his distinguished educational career spanning 30+ years. Most importantly, he has a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for discipleship.

Mr. Scott and his wife, Ashley, have been active members of Willowbrook Church, where she serves as the Willowbrook Weekday Early Education Director. They look forward to joining Whitesburg Baptist Church this summer. They have two adult children, Spencer and Sydney.

I would like to thank Whitesburg Christian Academy for the opportunity to be the Upper School Principal. I am looking forward to meeting the students, families and staff who make our school a great place. Leading and loving students will be my goal at WCA. I feel blessed to be a part of a school community which is guided by the mission of Christ. I am so excited to be on the team at WCA! Go Warriors!Matt Scott, upper School Principal

Lori Edgemon

Grammar School Principal

Lori Edgemon is the Grammar School Principal at the Academy.  She began her career in education teaching twenty-four 3rd graders at East Limestone.  Mrs. Edgemon taught 3rd grade for three years before moving to 2nd grade where she taught 12 years at East Limestone and Creekside Elementary.  Mrs. Edgemon was recognized as Creekside Elementary Teacher of the Year and Limestone County Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Edgemon has bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood Education (Grades P-3) and Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) from Athens State University. She also holds Master’s degrees in Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and Educational Administration (Grades P-12) from the University of North Alabama.  Mrs. Edgemon also holds an Administration certification from the Association of Christian Schools International.

Mrs. Edgemon felt God calling her into Christian Education and a strong nudge to apply for the principal position at a new Christian school that would be opening in her hometown of Athens, AL.  Mrs. Edgemon was the first hire at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy.  The school opened with 38 students K-6th grade the first year and grew to over 300 students on three campuses TK-12th grade during Mrs. Edgemon’s four years there.  Mrs. Edgemon joined the Academy family in 2013 and has seen God do exceedingly more than she can imagine during her time at the Academy.  The Academy has grown from 326 students in K-12th grade to almost 900 students.  In 10 years,  she has been a part of the Academy going from just a few grade levels that met at the church, to modulars, to a new brick building in 2020.

Mrs. Edgemon has been married to Jason Edgemon for 31 years, and they have one son, Grayson.  They enjoy spending time at Smith Lake, traveling, hiking, and camping. She has many favorite Bible verses, but truly believes that a Bible study on Esther grabbed her heart and led her to answer God’s call on her life to step into Christian education.  She is beyond thankful for that calling and loves coming to the Academy every day!

The Academy is my happy place!  I love coming to work every day!  We have the best students, staff, and parents! One of my favorite things to do throughout each school day is to peek into the classrooms.  I love seeing our passionate teachers teaching their hearts out and seeing our students engaged and having fun while learning.
