Choir
Choir is a performance-based class offered in middle school (7th-8th grade) and high school (9th-12th grade). The goal of this course is to teach the fundamentals of music to enable students to use their voices confidently and experience the joy of singing. We explore how the voice works, learn to read music and how to harmonize as well as broaden musical knowledge by learning pieces from different cultures and genres. Students prepare music for concerts at the annual Christmas Arts Trail and Spring Arts Showcase. They also have the opportunity to audition for Alabama All State Choir and to participate in the Madison County Honors Choir. Students get to showcase their individual talents on Performance Fridays, a fun quarterly event which builds camaraderie and teaches performance etiquette not only as a performer but also as an audience member.
Every student has the God-given instrument of voice. I believe exploring and cultivating that gift is crucial to a child's well-being and development. Finding one's voice and being confident in using it is a skill essential to expressing who we are in Christ and in sharing His love with others whether we are speaking or singing. It is a privilege to watch students develop their vocal gifts as a powerful tool to serve the Lord and encourage others. It is my prayer that they will use their beautiful and unique voices to glorify our Creator and promote His Kingdom!
